How FedEx makes walking in Memphis – and around the world – safer for children

mem-safe-kids.png Fifteen years ago, the FedEx Global Citizenship team discovered a unique nonprofit called Safe Kids Worldwide (known then as the National Safe Kids Campaign). Their mission is to help prevent childhood injuries. With tens of thousands of vehicles on the world’s roadways and with safety a central value of the company, we approached Safe Kids about developing a child pedestrian safety campaign with support from FedEx...

FedEx Impact Feeds the Need

Food bank.jpg.jpeg Volunteers are vital to Mid-South Food Bank's mission. With a lean staff focused on accessing and distributing food, we rely on volunteers to do the bulk of the work with making donated food ready for distribution. The Food Bank could not distribute food efficiently to our 31-county service area without the help of volunteers who sort and repack donated food, stock the shelves at our Agency Mart and fill the boxes with food for the BackPack Program. Volunteers also help at special events and at the Food Bank office.

FedEx is a long-time supporter of Mid-South Food Bank. In 2013, FedEx provided 400 volunteer hours to Mid-South Food Bank. Representing 13 different departments, the work of 176 volunteers enabled the Food Bank to distribute 26,568 meals with an estimated payroll savings of $8,856!..

It shuts down roads, leaves you stranded at airports, disrupts large-scale global business, can cost billions of dollars in damages, and sadly, can even cost lives.

This is when the FedEx meteorology team delivers a crucial service—contingency planning. There were several instances over the last decade when my team has been on top of severe weather, as when significant ice and snow in Memphis threatened the operation. We executed our backup plan, which included rerouting aircraft through our other hubs. Events like this demonstrate how much trust and confidence FedEx has in the meteorology team...
