What better way could you find to celebrate Earth Day than to spend a beautiful spring day outdoors making a difference at a beloved New England institution? Almost 40 FedEx team members in Boston did just that when they volunteered at the Green Apple Festival Volunteer Action at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA on April 17.

The Stories That Warm My Heart

Ok, I admit it. I’m a sucker for heart-warming stories of real people making a difference. I’m talking Oprah excited, Hallmark channel excited. I’ve shed a few tears here and there. Perhaps seeking positive stories is my own way to counteract the helplessness I feel when I turn on the news and see story after depressing story of corporate greed and government bailouts of big business. The positive stories are what keep my faith in the human spirit.

I recently served on a team of FedEx writers that conducted a college essay writing workshop for Memphis high school seniors interested in getting into some of the nation's most prestigious colleges. The FedEx team, comprised of communications managers and senior specialists who write for global audiences, focused on how to write college entrance essays that stand out from the crowd.
