Did You Know That Cars and Cows Had Many Things in Common?

fiat_engine.jpg First of all, their weight: depending on its breed, a cow can weigh up to more than one ton, just like a small car, and much more than our 650kg little Fiat 500! Another example is their life expectancy: a cow can live happily up to 20 years, just like a modern car has an average potential longevity of about 200000 miles (320000km), which is the mileage you can reach if you drive 10000 miles per year for 20 years. Actually, our Fiat 500 is turning 40 this year (happy birthday!) but it has only driven 90000 miles (145000 km) so far…

Back to the Future: When a Classic Car Goes Electric!

fiat_electric_blog.jpg I am the happy owner of a classic car: a 1973 Fiat 500, the car that most represents the Italian economic and social boom of the 1950s. The Fiat 500 is actually the first car I’ve ever driven, back when I was only 12 years old, on private roads of course!

Sustainability LIVE!

mitch_jackson_broadcast_crop_med.jpg I had the pleasure to participate in the Mike And Rob LIVE FedEx webcast for FedEx Services recently. They were kind enough to have me on to talk about our sustainability efforts within FedEx. Equally gratifying was the fact that we did the live webcast from the FedEx Enterprise Data Center-West (EDC-W) facility. This is a LEED Gold-certified facility. LEED is the U.S. Green Building Council’s certification of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Well, i took the personal plunge recently. i bought a plug-in electric vehicle for my own personal use. And, my family’s. One that runs only on electrons. One that runs my errands. Around town. Around traffic. To and fro. Everyday.

Summer Driving Safety

As an avid runner, I enjoy warm summer days when I can lace up my shoes and go for a jog through my neighborhood. I also enjoy the longer hours of sunshine, and watching the neighborhood kids taking advantage of the extra daylight with games of dodge ball, football, or street hockey. But it also scares me a little because I know there are many times that kids go chasing after a ball and forget to look for oncoming traffic.
