FedEx Announces Innovation Award Winner at 2013 National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster Conference

FedEx 2013 NVOAD Awards.jpg.jpeg FedEx is an innovation leader. To encourage innovation in one of our core philanthropic focus areas - disaster response - FedEx sponsors Innovation Awards at both national and international forums.

On the national level in the US, we sponsor an Innovation Award for National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD). The National VOAD coalition includes 55 of the country’s most reputable national organizations (faith-based, community-based and other nongovernmental organizations) and 55 State/Territory VOADs, which represent Local/Regional VOADs and hundreds of other member organizations throughout the country.

In January 2003, some household name US corporations were featured in a story in the Financial Times. The story reported that the companies had given financial donations to a charity linked to a terrorist organization. The names of the companies were included in the headline of the story. Ouch. One of the companies had a matching grant program. One of their employees donated to a charity that turned out to be indirectly associated with a terrorist organization and when the matching grant program kicked in the company made a direct donation to that organization.

- 61% have sought a brand that supports a good cause even if it was not the cheapest brand.
- 64% would recommend a brand that supports a good cause, up from 52% last year.
- 67% would switch brands if a different brand of similar quality supported a good cause.
- 83% of consumers are willing to change their consumption habits if it can help make tomorrow’s world a better place to live.


Aid - Who doesn't need it?

And who helps these people? They are reliant on the generous aid of all those who are better off and who perhaps cannot even imagine such a troubled existence...
