I Am FedEx - A Veteran's Story

Tim Malone pic.jpg It’s 4 AM. The alarm clock sounds. Work clothes are neatly pressed, and ready to go. The road to work is dark and quiet. It’s been over a decade since Tim Malone hung up his Army uniform, but not much has changed relative to the structure and pace of his work...

These messages from Trees for Troops recipients will warm your heart

UAE treeslg.jpeg Imagine a smiling group of U.S. soldiers gathered around a Christmas tree that was grown on an American farm and shipped to arrive fresh and green somewhere on the other side of the world, just in time for Christmas. Or, imagine a military spouse and children sharing joyous memories of Christmas through the gift of a free, real Christmas tree while their family member is away serving our country. Trees for Troops makes this vision a reality!

The Christmas SPIRIT Foundation and FedEx made this program a reality for the first time in 2005. That year, the program was organized in only 45 days and delivered 4,300 live Christmas trees to families at five military bases in the U.S. and overseas. Now, with the generous help of FedEx, we distribute 16,000-17,000 trees each year.

From Fuel Supply to FuelSense

fuelsense-blog-fueling5.jpeg You never know where some things will lead. As an Army Captain, I had the fortune to command a supply company that included a fuel supply platoon with the responsibility to refuel the 3rd Armored Division in central Germany.

These refueling operations were very static, dispensing fuel from large bladders which required units to congregate many tracked and wheeled vehicles at fuel depots. This made refueling not only inefficient but placed exposed vehicles at a higher risk of an enemy strike as they congregated.

We thought “there has to be a better way”, and during one of our deployment exercises, some soldiers in my unit invented a process to refuel tanks and vehicles while units were moving - a kind of mobile filling station.

Hiring our Heroes

...Our company employs numerous veterans including FedEx founder and chairman, Frederick W. Smith, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Each year we participate in several events to support our troops. Since 2005, we’ve helped transport Christmas trees to our military as part of the Trees for Troops program. This election season, FedEx is proud to continue our partnership with the Overseas Vote Foundation to provide voter services for our military service members....

Keepsakes From Another Continent

...Sixty seven years ago, Army Private First Class John Alfred D’Amore served in US armed forces in Belgium during WWII. During that time, he was in love with a woman, Rose Archie, who later became his wife. Fitting with his lastname D’Amore literally meaning “of love”, the young soldier carefully and secretly carried a keepsake box of photos and love letters from his fiancée Rose. As the ravages of war ensued, the keepsake box was lost but the soldier safely returned home to marry his sweetheart and build a family.

It was only this past June that the small wooden box was rediscovered by a woman cleaning an attic in the Ardennes region of Belgium and the adventure of finding its rightful owner began.

When FedEx Express stepped in to ensure the keepsake box arrived safely in the hands of John Alfred D’Amore, the surprise package was delivered in its rightful style-- hand delivered by FedEx couriers who are also US Veterans....[Read More]
