Scooper Bowl - Ice Cream for a Higher Purpose

This year marks the 29th anniversary of The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl, which benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. Last year The Scooper Bowl raised almost $300,000 for this important cancer research and treatment of both children and adults, and this year we hope to break the all-time record of $350,000 raised a few years ago.

FedEx is in our 4th year as the presenting sponsor of this enormous ice cream party in the heart of downtown Boston, and I can't describe the excitement shown by our FedEx team member volunteers and patrons alike.

Over 300 FedEx team and family members from 9 different states volunteered to scoop ice cream for attendees and help manage the overall event. Over 10 tons of ice cream from 8 different ice cream companies will be served over 3 days!

It's amazing to see so many people volunteer to take time off and work so hard at this event. Most are driven very personally - as almost all of us have been impacted by the scourge of cancer. We've seen our friends, family, and co-workers battle this relentless disease. Quite literally, as I'm writing this, a man in his 50's JUST delivered food to our workroom and made mention that in the 6th grade he as treated for cancer and benefited from The Jimmy Fund. Because of The Jimmy Fund, he has lived a healthy, happy and productive life.

The work done by organizations like this impact countless of people around us. Their stories surround us, inspire us, and motivate us to volunteer, give, and share from our hearts.

This is my 3rd year volunteering for The Jimmy Fund "Scooper Bowl." It's so much fun, and a great personal experience. This year was really busy...I started my 5:00 PM "scooping shift" with several other FedEx team members at the Ben and Jerry's booth, and we didn't stop until 8 PM! Helping out and doing our part in the community we serve is something we'll look forward to next year...in support of The Jimmy Fund in Boston!
