FedEx Teams up with the Washington Redskins to Tackle Hunger at FedExField |
Thanksgiving is approaching, and as we think about the hearty feast that awaits us, it’s important to celebrate the holiday by not just giving thanks – but showing thanks for what we have. Part of FedEx’s way of showing our thanks is by giving back to the communities in need. For the one out of seven households across the U.S. that is food insecure, Thanksgiving has a deeper meaning.
Today, FedEx teamed up with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and Operation Blessing to package and distribute more than 155,000 pounds turkey and trimmings to local Prince George’s County families in need at FedExField. FedEx volunteers and veteran Redskins players loaded 300 Thanksgiving meals into a FedEx truck to distribute to the Community of Hope AME and the King Squares Apartments in Prince George’s County.
“We are honored to work together with the Washington Redskins and Operation Blessing to deliver these meals to local families who struggle to put food on the table every day. The rewarding feeling that comes as a result of helping families celebrate Thanksgiving is well worth it,” said Ken Wilson, FedEx Express Managing Director, US Operations – Capitol District.
Harvest Feast is part of FedEx’s year-round efforts toward combating hunger. Through programs like Harvest Feast, FedEx strives to play an active role in making a positive difference in improving the lives of the communities we serve. In working with community and non-profit organizations, FedEx has provided transportation services and logistical assistance to help deliver more than 835,000 pounds of food and 1,075 Thanksgiving meals since the event’s inception. FedEx also works with food banks and hunger relief programs in D.C. and across the country to address the needs of those who are at risk of hunger.
