FedEx Teams Up With the Washington Redskins to Deliver Thanksgiving Dinner at FedExField

dcharvestToday, 50 FedEx volunteers will bundle up and head to FedExField outside Washington, D.C.  But they aren’t going to watch a Redskins football game…

For the eighth year, FedEx volunteers will team up with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and Operation Blessing to sort and package 45,500 pounds of frozen turkey and 110,000 pounds of fresh and canned produce for distribution at Harvest Feast. This annual event at FedExField distributes frozen turkeys and groceries to help local families celebrate Thanksgiving.

In addition to distributing food at the stadium, FedEx will team up with the Redskins rookie class to load turkeys and trimmings into FedEx trucks for an extra special delivery.  Redskins players  DeJon Gomes, Niles Paul, Brandyn Thompson and Doug Worthington will join FedEx drivers Hartford Levison and Donald Falwell for the ride out to the Prince George’s County Transitional Housing Department and the Community Ministry of Prince George’s County, where they will deliver ingredients to be used in Thursday night’s holiday dinner.

“Harvest Feast gives FedEx a chance to use our resources to help give back to the community where our employees, contractors and customers live, work and play,” said volunteer coordinator Janice Person.

As the national economy continues to struggle, FedEx strives to make a positive difference in the communities it serves through supporting hunger relief efforts. Events like Harvest Feast give FedEx an opportunity to volunteer our time and transportation expertise to give back to the communities where our employees, contractors and customers live, work and play.

Since FedEx began working with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, it has helped sort and package 835,000 pounds of food and delivered more than 1,705 Thanksgiving meals to area shelters.
