Celebrating Dr. King’s Life and Teachings with Food & Friends

In January, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service marked the beginning of a year for service as millions of Americans honored the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. by volunteering in their communities. This Day of Service initiative focused on Dr. King’s famous statement: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?'"

In Washington, D.C., nearly 30 FedEx volunteers celebrated Dr. King's teachings by volunteering at Food & Friends, which is an organization that prepares and delivers specialized meals and groceries to their clients living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. As a result of FedEx volunteers' hard work in the kitchen, 875 nutritious meals were packed and will be delivered to Food & Friends' clients in the Washington, DC and surrounding area.

FedEx has been honored to be able to assist Food & Friends, over the past six years, in making a lasting impact on the health and wellness of Food & Friends' clients. In fact, one of FedEx's long time volunteers with Food & Friends, Dan Connors (FedEx Services, Sales Account Manager), was recently featured in the organizations' monthly newsletter.
