Signs of a Hopeful Spring
Recently, FedEx locations in Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and around the country may have looked more like a flower farm than a package sorting facility to visitors and employees alike. That’s because this week marked the company’s 15th year of support for the American Cancer Society’s annual Daffodil Days spring fundraising event – a time when millions of daffodil blooms are prepared, packaged and delivered by FedEx Express and FedEx Ground team members to donors in dozens of cities across 10 states nationwide.
In Indianapolis, Paul Aust, a long-time FedEx Express team member in Indianapolis, has been a champion for the local hub’s Daffodil Days support for four years running. This year more than 25 team members and ten volunteers from the local ACS chapter came together to make sure 600,000 flowers were sorted and ready for delivery on March 20, 2012.
“We work around the clock sorting and delivering packages worldwide, but our network can – and does – do so much more than that,” said Aust. “We love programs like Daffodil Days that let us use our logistical and delivery expertise in a fun and highly efficient way.”
In Pittsburgh, FedEx Ground provided in-kind delivery support for Allegheny County, which boasts the largest Daffodil Days program in the country. “We have 30 or more volunteers who help sort 850 shipments and over 300 fellow employees who place orders, all of whom look forward to the delivery day,” said Chris Myers, an engineer in the FedEx Ground Facilities and Material Handling department. “Many of them welcome the arrival of spring with Daffodil Days and recognize it as a great opportunity to help and honor those they know who have been affected by cancer.”
A huge “Thanks!” goes out to the many FedEx Express and FedEx Ground team members who got involved in the company’s 15th Daffodil Days delivery operation, including groups in: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana and California.
