Voices from The Scooper Bowl: Fighting cancer by eating ice cream

Ice cream. Kids love it. Adults love it. And it brings FedEx team members together to help raise money for The Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

FedEx has presented The Jimmy Fund "Scooper Bowl" for the past six years, with hundreds of team members volunteering to scoop ice cream to a hungry crowd of children and adults. The three-day, all-you-can-eat ice cream fundraiser holds a special place in many of our volunteers' hearts. Read why these people, all with a special connection to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, choose to volunteer their time and effort at this special event.

Steaks for Soldiers

If you ask Ralph Perkuhn, Senior Training Specialist for FedEx Express in the Western Region about his recent vacation, he will tell you he took a few days off in April to volunteer for the Steak Team Mission in Afghanistan. He will also humbly explain how this story is not about him. It’s about the marines. If these guys are willing to put their lives on the line for our country, Ralph and the other volunteers for the Steak Mission Team feel the least they can do- is to offer these soldiers with a “taste of home.”

Scooper Bowl - Ice Cream for a Higher Purpose

...It's amazing to see so many people volunteer to take time off and work so hard at this event. Most are driven very personally - as almost all of us have been impacted by the scourge of cancer. We've seen our friends, family, and co-workers battle this relentless disease. Quite literally, as I'm writing this, a man in his 50's JUST delivered food to our workroom and made mention that in the 6th grade he as treated for cancer and benefited from The Jimmy Fund. Because of The Jimmy Fund, he has lived a healthy, happy and productive life.

The work done by organizations like this impact countless of people around us. Their stories surround us, inspire us, and motivate us to volunteer, give, and share from our hearts.
