The Right Kind of Fortune

all_fedex_opcos_fortune.jpg
Once again FedEx has been named to the  FORTUNE World’s Most Admired Companies list. FedEx ranked #10 for 2013, and has ranked on the list for 11 of the last 14 years. But it’s not about the numbers. It’s understandable the factors used to determine the ranking include financial management, service quality, social responsibility and global orientation. I’m proud of that strength of our business and our culture. We are one of the most admired global shipping giants on the planet for a reason – our people.

FedEx Panda Express : de Chengdu à Toronto

Panda-BAG_v2-cropped_1.jpg

Spoiler Alert: Temperature-sensitive Healthcare Shipments in Transit

Whenever a shipment is transported in a complex network involving many transportation modes, outside temperatures cannot always be well controlled. The shipment is exposed to various climatic conditions on tarmacs and on loading docks. Temperature excursions affecting the quality and potentially spoiling temperature-sensitive healthcare products are a major concern.

Knowing Our History

When I was in college and working on my undergraduate degree, I majored in engineering. I and my fellow students learned a great deal in those few years - we learned about stresses, like those in engineering: static and dynamic...as well as those resulting from the curriculum itself. We learned about Laplace transforms - look it up on Wikipedia for an interesting (or not) read. We learned about engineering economics - and, no, that is not an oxymoron!

Glocalization: A New Word for a New Reality

glocalization3_0 copy.jpg
Key in the word "glocalization," and your computer may warn you that you've misspelled something. Say "glocalization" out loud, and you'll see confusion from colleagues who are certain you meant to say "globalization." "Glocalization" may be a little known term right now, but awareness of it is growing.

Hello FedEx Team Members!

2013FedExCamry.jpg Happy New Year to you and your families. I hope that everyone is as excited as I am for the upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. This year marks my 8th full season representing you as the full-time driver of the #11 FedEx Toyota, and I am honored to get behind the wheel of that race car each weekend to help all FedEx team members feel the thrill of victory.

Happy Lunar New Year

China Courier Jing.jpg When you think of China, there's a tendency to Think Big. Trillions in the bank. Most populous nation on earth. Nearly two hundred million online shoppers. But the strength of China is also found in the small.

The State of Our Union – Action Needed

govt master_k12781_blog.jpg In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama outlined an ambitious agenda to overhaul the U.S. tax code, produce more domestic and alternative energy, rebuild our infrastructure and expand international trade. This endeavor must start with the long overdue task of restructuring the corporate tax code, stuck at 39 percent for far too long (35% federal + 4% state) and putting American companies at a competitive disadvantage versus our economic peers.

Celebrating Dr. King’s Life and Teachings with Food & Friends

In January, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service marked the beginning of a year for service as millions of Americans honored the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. by volunteering in their communities. This Day of Service initiative focused on Dr. King’s famous statement: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?'"

Did You Know That Cars and Cows Had Many Things in Common?

fiat_engine.jpg First of all, their weight: depending on its breed, a cow can weigh up to more than one ton, just like a small car, and much more than our 650kg little Fiat 500! Another example is their life expectancy: a cow can live happily up to 20 years, just like a modern car has an average potential longevity of about 200000 miles (320000km), which is the mileage you can reach if you drive 10000 miles per year for 20 years. Actually, our Fiat 500 is turning 40 this year (happy birthday!) but it has only driven 90000 miles (145000 km) so far…
